Each job is different but a good starting point is 1 oz of compound to each gallon of water. Gradually reduce the amount of compound until the parts and media wont stay clean, then turn it up a little. The idea is to use the least amount of compound that you can. Start the solution flow at 1 gallon per cubic foot per hour, then adjust from there. Obviously, dirty, greasy parts are going to take more of each. Know your compound ph. Keep liquid compounds from freezing. Make sure safety equipment is available for the employees. Have your MSDS and hazardous labels displayed in case the feds drop in.

When burnishing aluminum parts and castings most people will be using acidic compounds and steel media while zinc parts might require alkaline compounds. Burnishing is finiky and sometimes you might have to try several different burnishing compounds to get the color you want with your water. Remember, when burnishing, your media must stay brilliant to make your parts look their best.

General deburring and cleaning of stamped steel parts can use a mild compound. Most likely on the alkaline side to provide some rust inhibiting. This is a very easy application and not neccessarily rocket science. Don't ever use a harsh compound on an easy application.

DEBURRING COMPOUNDS
PH 1%Water HardnessOz. per gal.Price 55 Gallon DrumPrice Per 5 Gallon Pail

L-127
L-127 is a liquid concentrate formulated for deburring non-ferrous metals and their alloys. This product provides corrosion resistance and imparts a desirable, light color to the parts. Recommended usage ratio is 1/2 - 2 ounces per gall of water, depending upon the degree of cleaning required. May be used with plastic, ceramic, or natural (stone) media and is effective with either a flow-through solution or tumbling system. Characteristics: Imparts light metal colors. Excellent cleaning of parts. Medium foam with soft water, high foam in hard water. Effective in very hard water.

L-161
L-161 is a deburring compound used with non-ferrous metals that will provide clean, light-colored surfaces. It is effective with ceramic, resin-bonded, natural stones, and fused aluminum oxide medias, and is capable of defoaming resin-bonded media. Will also prevent "loading" of light to non-cutting ceramic media. Recommended usage rate is 1/2 to 1-1/2 ounces per gallon of water. A higher concentration is used where better cleaning and/or luster are required. Generally not recommended for use in hard water over 15 grains per gallon. Characteristics: Excellent cleaning of parts. Imparts light metal color. Medium to high foam level. Effective in hard water. Corrosion inhibition of non-ferrous parts.
