CERAMIC MEDIA is the most widely used media for deburring parts. Popular shapes are angle cut triangles and angle cut cylinders. These can be sized from very small to very large. Probably the bigger the better. Large media cuts faster than small media and doesn't get down to a lodging size as fast. Several compositions are available to do everything from polishing to fast cutting. The faster the cut the faster it wears.

Media designed for fast metal removal, surface improvements, and low rms finish. Matte finish and moderate wear rate but very efficient due to reduced cycle times.

UFX-ULTRA AGGRESSIVE
Our fastest cutting media formulation where metal removal, radiusing and cycle times are primary concerns.

DF-DENSE SUPER FAST CUT
Extremely resistant to fracturing, ideal for high energy applications. Very fast cut facilitated by heavier weight per cu. ft. Deburr and radius faster than standard medias.
DF Brown Dense Fast Deburr Matte 110-115

SC-SILICON CARBIDE
A media used where aluminum oxide impregnation cannot be tolerated such as brasing, welding or soldering. Good cutting characteristics and good wear.
SC Grey No Alum Oxide Good 85-90

PLASTIC MASS FINISHING MEDIA
PLASTIC & SYNTHETIC MEDIA is used more commonly on aluminum parts and for providing a pre-plate finish. Cones and wedges are probably the most common shapes. Plastic media is lighter than ceramic media. Synthetic media is mainly used for softer metals and delicate parts.

Heavy zircon molded media, a general purpose, fast cutting media with a good wear designed to produce excellent finishes with reduced cycle times.

STEEL BURNISHING MEDIA
STEEL MEDIA is used mainly for burnishing parts, but can also be used for deburring by beating down the burrs. Advantages are that is virtually never wears out and never changes size or shape to cause lodging problems. Also you don't have the sludge problems associated with ceramic media. A disadvantage is that your vibratory machine must be capable of handling the heavy weight of steel media which is around 300 lbs per cubic foot. There are a few different shapes of steel media but balcones are considered the best.

SIZES, SHAPES AND MATERIALS

BALCONES/CONES

Very popular for vibratory finishing applications requiring aggresive action. Our most popular steel media. See dimensional specifications table for configuration.

DIAGONALS

Particularly suited to odd shapes where lodging might be a problem or parts with hard to reach angles. Diagonals are the least expensive steel media. See dimensional specifications table for configuration.

BALLS

Manufactured to the nominal diameter dimension with no visual surface irregularities. Specified for critical applications only.

OVALBALLS

Are used for vibratory finishing and barrel tumbling operations when a scratch and dimple free finish is required. See dimensional specifications table for configuration.

PINS

Small diameter for reaching areas not accessiable by conventional steel media, will give fine burnish. Most expensive steel media.

PRECISION MEDIA is a ceramic media used when small and precise size is an issue. Such an application would be small pins that can get into very small holes. Polishing spheres are used to burnish after ceramic coating.

BALCONES/CONES	Very popular for vibratory finishing applications requiring aggresive action. Our most popular steel media. See dimensional specifications table for configuration.
DIAGONALS	Particularly suited to odd shapes where lodging might be a problem or parts with hard to reach angles. Diagonals are the least expensive steel media. See dimensional specifications table for configuration.
BALLS	Manufactured to the nominal diameter dimension with no visual surface irregularities. Specified for critical applications only.
OVALBALLS	Are used for vibratory finishing and barrel tumbling operations when a scratch and dimple free finish is required. See dimensional specifications table for configuration.
PINS	Small diameter for reaching areas not accessiable by conventional steel media, will give fine burnish. Most expensive steel media.
